With the time approaching us quickly, in fact only 2 weeks from today, I wanted to write the last character reference before the craziness of back to school overtakes me! The audition posters have been made, the copies and warm and the students I am sure, are excited! I have one last character blog I wanted to dedicate towards the highlighted roles in the show. This one is for those who want to be highlighted, but maybe don't want a huge solo or many lines to memorize, Little Mermaid has some roles which will give us the opportunity to highlight many actors. Here are a few that you may not have known or been aware of:
Well that closes out our role descriptions. I hope this gives you a better idea of the show and lets you see how many opportunities we will have to feature a ton of students in highlighted & featured roles. Overall, these roles will all be really fun, fantasy characters to create & re-imagine when we begin rehearsal in 2 weeks! If you haven't yet read the blog about auditions, make sure you do that to help prepare you! See you soon!

What I really enjoy about Disney's The Little Mermaid is there are so many places to highlight people, we have already dove into those characters: supporting & featured. This week our focus are on the leading players. If you didn't read last week's blog on auditions, I would highly recommend you do that so you are prepared. Auditions are in 17 days! Don't hesitate to email Rachel with any questions, that form can be found on the home page.
Week two of the role introductions in our fall musical: Disney's The Little Mermaid. Today marks 30 days until auditions! Wow! This week for me is full of meetings! I am meeting with KC & Erin to discuss the schedule, auditions, and the show itself. I am also meeting with Robin & Joleen to discuss the concept ideas of dance & costumes. Yahoo! This week I would like to start focusing on the featured roles, there are many in Disney's The Little Mermaid so grab a cup of lemonade and a snack, here we go! MersistersAriel's sisters all have their own personality and have the opportunity to build great characters with character voices. The songs they are featured in are: "Daughters of Triton" and "She's In Love". The will be dancing both numbers. Aquata the eldest is helpful, but bossy, always tries to be the peacemaker. Andrina is the most athletic, good sense of humor, loves jokes & pranks. Arista is vain & selfish. Most jealous of Ariel & envies her adventure. Atina is the smartest, bookworm & most clever. Always tries to give good advice to her sisters. She is most responsible. Adella is the dullest of the mersisters, not the brightest bulb...as so they say. Allana is the sweetest, she is shy and loves plants & animals.
Supporting Roles!Well it's now August, and our Audition countdown on the cast page says 35 days until the first step in our fall musical! I can't believe it's that close already. Erin has been posting some great audition tips on Instagram & Facebook, so check those out. But when auditioning you should become familiar with the roles in the show. That way you can try to emit aspects & characteristics of that character at auditions, or better yet at callbacks have a sense of who you might be reading for in a scene. In a musical there are so many different types of roles and many of which are highlighted so differently. In Disney's The Little Mermaid I want to shine a spotlight on certain roles weekly to maybe give you an idea of some of the fun roles available!! Keep in mine movement is really important for all the sea creatures in this show! They are constantly moving! If you get a callback keep that in mind as you are reading for sea creatures! Be on the look out next week for more character spotlights! -Rachel
