HistoryThe beginning of Addams Family goes all the way back to the 1930’s in the form single-panel gag cartoons printed first in the New Yorker, created by Charles Addams. This comic made it’s way as a TV show in the 60’s. The Addams were a silly family that loved disturbing and horrifying, but were said to also be a satirical inversion of the ideal twentieth-century American family: an eccentric wealthy aristocratic clan who delight in the macabre and are seemingly unaware, or do not care, that other people find them bizarre or frightening. The Addams Family has had a place in our hearts through. Following many other adaptations have existed, through movies & TV. Things that may Surprise you on StageThe new musical adds some new characters of Mal, Alice and Lucas Beineke as painted as “straight arrow Midwesterners”. They are meeting the Addams Family for dinner, two young lovers have brought the families together (Wednesday & Lucas). Of course we will have a handful of Addams Ancestors, played by our ensemble, each with their own individual character. Many different adaptations of the cartoon exist, and the musical itself is more based up on the original comic than the TV shows or movies. To audition for the Fall Musical choose to attend one of the audition dates: Sept 7th 4:30-7:00 & Sept 9th 9:00 am-11:30 in the PAC at CLHS.
